The route
Johan will follow the tracks of the pilgrims that paved the road, carrying his backpack full of letters. The classic pilgrim roads will lead him through and along several large cities. Following the Via Campaniensis from Leuven to Vézelay he’ll pass Hoegaarden, Namen, Dinant, Reims and Troyes. From Vézelay he’ll trot to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port with layovers in Limoges and Périgueux.
Where Johan has completed two-thirds of his journey, most pilgrims start their journey; the town at the foot of the Pyrenees is the departure point par excellence for travelers who walk along the Camino Frances towards their goal, some 700km away. As soon as he has conquered the Pyrenees, the road will lead him along Pamplona, Burgos and Leon, to arrive at his destination: Santiago de Compostela.
